Calling for urgent consultation on business rates


Following the recent announcement about the closure of Burgins Perfumary, a business which has been trading in York for 137 years, Rachael Maskell challenged the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Philip Hammond, to say when he will begin an urgent consultation on business rates to help traders in York.  In his Spring Budget the Chancellor promised that “a new preferred approach to business rates” would be consulted on but this has not happened.

Responding to Gibb Report


On Tuesday (4th July) a House of Commons debate was called to discuss the Gibb report outlining changes to be made to improve the Southern Rail network. Following Rachael Maskell’s recent appointment as a Shadow Minister for Transport, the Labour MP for York Central made a strong speech standing up for all Southern Rail users, making specific reference to those most vulnerable in society. Rachael Maskell MP for York Central attended the Holocaust Memorial Day Commemoration at York Minster’s historic Chapter House; remembering the victims of genocide from the Holocaust to the present day.
